Toy Room Deep Clean

Use this handy checklist for cleaning the toy room.

  • GENERAL PREP
  • Pick up and sort all toys (group by type: dolls, blocks, puzzles, etc.)
  • Discard broken items or toys with missing pieces
  • Set aside toys to donate or rotate out
  • Take out trash and recycling
  • Open windows for ventilation
  • TOY CLEANING (NON-ELECTRONIC)
  • Clean hard plastic toys with warm soapy water or disinfectant wipes
  • Wash plush toys in the washing machine (check labels first)
  • Sanitize small toys in a mesh laundry bag in the dishwasher (top rack only)
  • Spot-clean fabric toys or dress-up clothes
  • FURNITURE
  • Wipe down play tables, chairs, and shelves
  • Disinfect handles, knobs, and drawer pulls
  • Clean cubbies or storage bins (inside and out)
  • Polish or dust wood surfaces
  • Tighten any loose screws or bolts on furniture
  • WALLS & DECOR
  • Spot-clean walls (marker, crayon, fingerprints)
  • Dust and wipe picture frames, wall art, or bulletin boards
  • Clean baseboards and molding
  • WINDOWS & CURTAINS
  • Clean glass and window sills
  • Dust or wipe down blinds
  • Vacuum or wash curtains if needed
  • TOY STORAGE & ORGANIZATION
  • Empty and wipe toy bins
  • Sort toys into labeled containers (e.g., LEGOs, dolls, action figures)
  • Use clear bins or open shelving for easy access
  • Store seasonal or rarely used items in higher locations
  • FLOORS
  • Pick up all toys and sweep or vacuum thoroughly
  • Vacuum area rugs or shake them outside
  • Spot-treat carpet stains or deep clean if needed
  • Mop hard floors with a child-safe cleaner
  • Let floors dry completely before replacing rugs or bins
  • BATTERY-OPERATED TOYS
  • Remove batteries before cleaning
  • Wipe exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap
  • Use cotton swabs for small crevices
  • Let fully dry before reinstalling batteries
  • LIGHTS, SOUND TOYS, AND MOTION DEVICES
  • Clean buttons and controls gently
  • Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth for screens or lights
  • Check for corrosion in battery compartments
  • Replace dead batteries and test functionality
  • KIDS’ TABLETS, SCREENS, AND AUDIO DEVICES
  • Power off and unplug before cleaning
  • Use screen-safe cleaner and microfiber cloth
  • Sanitize headphones or touch surfaces
  • Check charging cords and wipe down
