Overview of Offline mode

Cozi switches to offline mode when your Android device is not connected to the Internet. In offline mode, the information you see is what Cozi last downloaded from its secure cloud storage, plus any changes that you made after disconnecting. Changes you make are stored on your device and synced the next time you use Cozi while connected to the Internet.

When you’re in offline mode, a banner appears at the top of the screen to let you know. The banner goes away when you connect to the Internet again. After you connect, it can take a few minutes for all of the changes you made in offline mode to be visible to other family members.

Frequently Asked Questions about offline mode

Why can’t I see information in offline mode that I know is there?

Cozi saves data to your device when you view it in the Cozi app. In offline mode, Cozi displays information previously saved on your device. If you have never viewed a feature from the device (for example, calendar or shopping lists) while online, Cozi won’t have any information to show you. In addition, Cozi only saves calendar information for days you viewed on your device, and only saves the last 10 journal entries.

Why can’t I see changes that I made in offline mode after I sync?

If you or another family member edits a Calendar appointment on multiple devices, the first change sent to Cozi’s cloud storage will be saved and any subsequent changes made offline after that first change will be ignored. Additionally, changes to list ordering might not be saved if they conflict with other changes made while your device was offline.

Using the Calendar in offline mode

In offline mode, Cozi shows you:

Appointments for days you viewed in the Calendar last time you were connected to the Internet
Appointments you added or changed while in offline mode

In offline mode, you can’t see:

Appointments for days you haven’t viewed while connected to the Internet
Changes that you or other family members made on another device

You must be connected to the Internet to add, edit, or delete recurring appointments.

Using Lists in offline mode

Because Cozi only saves the changes you make in offline mode if there were no conflicting changes made by you or other family members on other devices, it is possible that some of your offline changes might not be saved.

In offline mode, Cozi shows you:

Shopping and to do list information that was current when you last viewed a shopping or to do list
Changes you made to shopping or to do lists while in offline mode

In offline mode, you can’t see:

Corresponding Calendar updates for changes to a to do list item that contains a date
Changes that you or other family members made on another device

Using the Journal in offline mode

In offline mode, Cozi shows you the 10 most recent journal entries as of the time you viewed the Journal. You can edit the text of a journal entry, or delete it (but no one else can see your changes until you connect again).

In offline mode you can’t see journal entries older than the last 10, or journal entries added since you last viewed the Journal.

You must be connected to the Internet to add or change a journal entry photo.

Using Settings in offline mode

In offline mode you can make changes to your settings. However, it’s a good idea to add or remove household members, or to add or change email addresses for household members, when you are connected to the Internet. Settings changes that you make offline won’t be available for other features like email notifications or adding appointment attendees until you’ve synced your settings by connecting to the Internet.
