Unlock the Full Power of Cozi with These To Do List Tips

Between grocery runs, school projects, and remembering to sign that field trip permission slip, your mental checklist is probably working overtime. But you don’t have to keep it all in your head (or scattered across sticky notes and text threads).
That’s what Cozi’s To-Do Lists are for — a single, shareable space to organize all the details that keep your family humming.
Whether you’re keeping up with housework or coordinating who’s walking the dog this week, Cozi helps you feel in control, even when life feels anything but. You can create lists for everything, from “Saturday Soccer Snacks” to “House Projects We Might Actually Finish.”
We’ve already shared some tips on taking full advantage of Cozi To-Do Lists, like using the starter lists and planning checklists from Cozi’s List Library. Here are 7 new ways to make your To-Do Lists work even harder for you—so that checking them off is a little more satisfying.
Basic To-Do List Tips
1. Create lists that match real life
Think about your routines and lifestyle, and organize lists around what actually happens in your week. Try one list for each category of life:
- Household: Running laundry, paying bills, and replacing the batteries in the smoke detector before they die and it starts chirping.
- Kids: Piano practice, bake sale goodies, dentist appointment.
- Work: Monday deadlines or calls you keep meaning to return.
You can create a shared Family To-Do list for bigger tasks everyone can pitch in on. (Nia can check off “feed Buster,” and Johnny can mark off “bring in the trash cans.”)
2. Keep lists tidy with sections
If your list feels endless, or if you do better splitting projects into smaller steps, break it up! In a Cozi list, if an item is all in uppercase, it becomes a section heading. So use headers like ERRANDS, CALLS, or AROUND THE HOUSE to make scanning easier. You can also reorder items by priority — “Absolutely must do today or else,” “Nice if done,” or “Can wait till next week.”
Or make a yearly reminders list. Forgot to renew your driver’s license this year? Waited too long to schedule your kids’ sports physicals to beat the end-of-summer rush? For those appointments that might not be on your calendar, but need to happen in a specific month each year, create a To-Do List with category headings (all caps) for each month: “OCTOBER, pay car insurance, NOVEMBER, clean the gutters,” etc.
This not only makes your list easier to tackle but gives you that instant ahh feeling of clarity when you open the app.
3. Share the mental load
You don’t have to carry everyone’s reminders yourself. With Cozi, everyone can see the same lists, including shared lists and their own lists. Add your partner or teen to the list, and they’ll know exactly what needs to be done. (No more “Did you get the milk?” texts. They’ll just see it checked off in your Cozi Grocery List.)
For the kids, you can create morning and bedtime routine lists. No more “yes, you HAVE to brush your teeth” reminders.
You’ll all feel more like a team.
4. Turn recurring tasks into routine
Some chores never go away — like taking out the trash or packing lunches. Instead of retyping them, go to the Chores tab and create a list. Once you’ve created a chore, tap the pencil icon to the right of the chore to set up recurrences (daily or weekly).
It’s a small step that keeps your lists evergreen, your house a little cleaner, and your busy days a little smoother.
5. Make it motivating
Checking off tasks feels good — really good. So when you’ve accomplished a task that wasn’t on your To-Do List, write it on the list and then cross it off. It’s still an accomplishment, whether it started there or not!
Maybe you remembered to drop off donations on the way to the grocery store. Maybe you cleaned out one junk drawer because you couldn’t close it and got inspired. Pop those on the list, then cross them off!
Seeing what you did accomplish can be just as powerful as seeing what’s next.
6. Use Cozi Lists with other Cozi features
Your lists don’t have to live alone. Add recipes from your Cozi Recipe Box to your grocery list with one tap. If you’re planning to make beef stew, Cozi can add stew meat, potatoes, carrots, onion, and celery in one second.
Or check your calendar for complicated events. Got a Saturday soccer match? Create a Game Day Prep list: “cleats, shin guards, orange slices, water bottles, folding chairs.” When you’re rushing out the door, you’ll know you’ve packed everything.
You could add a “Sunday Reset” reminder to your Calendar each week, and then make a list including things like “wash uniforms, update grocery list, review next week’s appointments, and re-prioritize lists.” You’ll feel organized before Monday even starts.
Keeping everything in one place — meals, errands, events, and reminders — means fewer apps to open and more time for life outside lists.
7. Use Lists for things beyond To-Dos
You don’t have to stick to lists of tasks. List anything you want to remember in a category! Books you’d like to read, ideas for your upcoming remodel, birthday wish lists.
Try a “Movies we want to watch” list that has headings for different people, separating the movies you want to watch with your partner from the movies you want to watch with your kids, for example. Then when you sit down for a relaxing evening and your mind goes blank, you can just check Cozi for ideas.
