Use this handy checklist for cleaning the living room.

Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist

  • GENERAL PREP
  • Remove all clutter from surfaces and floors
  • Shake out or launder throw blankets and pillow covers
  • Open windows for ventilation (if weather permits)
  • Empty trash or recycling bins
  • FURNITURE (NON-ELECTRONIC)
  • Vacuum or brush upholstered furniture (use attachments)
  • Spot clean fabric or steam clean if needed
  • Wipe down wooden or leather furniture with appropriate cleaner
  • Rotate and fluff cushions
  • Move furniture and clean underneath and behind
  • SURFACES & DECOR
  • Dust all flat surfaces (tables, shelves, mantels)
  • Clean and polish wood surfaces
  • Wipe and disinfect high-touch areas (remotes, knobs, handles)
  • Clean mirrors and glass tabletops with glass cleaner
  • Dust lamps, frames, and decorative items
  • WINDOWS & WINDOW TREATMENTS
  • Clean windows (inside and outside if accessible)
  • Dust blinds or shades
  • Vacuum or wash curtains
  • WALLS, TRIM, AND VENTS
  • Dust and wipe baseboards and crown molding
  • Spot clean walls (look for scuff marks or fingerprints)
  • Clean air vents and grilles
  • FLOORS & RUGS
  • Vacuum entire area thoroughly (under rugs and furniture too)
  • Shake out and deep clean area rugs
  • Spot treat carpet stains or consider professional cleaning
  • Mop hardwood or tile if present
  • Let floors dry completely before replacing rugs
  • TV & ENTERTAINMENT CENTER
  • Turn off and unplug before cleaning
  • Dust screen with a microfiber cloth
  • Use screen-safe cleaner if needed
  • Dust TV stand, console, and behind unit
  • Organize cords and wipe down remote controls
  • SPEAKERS, SOUND BARS, AND AUDIO EQUIPMENT
  • Dust with microfiber or electronics duster
  • Wipe controls gently with slightly damp cloth
  • Clean speaker grills with vacuum brush or lint roller
  • GAMING CONSOLES AND CONTROLLERS
  • Wipe down with electronics-safe cloth
  • Use compressed air to remove dust from vents and ports
  • Sanitize controllers and handhelds
  • SMART DEVICES & CHARGING STATIONS
  • Wipe touchscreens with screen-safe wipes
  • Clean around power strips and charging docks
  • Check batteries and cable condition
