Use this handy checklist for cleaning the entryway room.

Entryway, Coat Closet, & Mudroom Deep Cleaning Checklist

  • GENERAL PREP
  • Remove all shoes, coats, bags, and gear
  • Sort out-of-season items for storage or donation
  • Shake out or wash doormats and runners
  • Take out trash or recycling
  • Open door or window for ventilation (if applicable)
  • COAT CLOSET ORGANIZATION
  • Empty closet completely
  • Wipe down closet walls, shelves, and baseboards
  • Vacuum or mop closet floor
  • Clean and disinfect door handles and knobs
  • Sort and rehang coats (store or donate unused items)
  • Organize shoes, umbrellas, bags, and accessories
  • Use labeled bins or baskets for small items
  • SURFACES & FIXTURES
  • Wipe down walls, switch plates, and doors
  • Clean shelves, cubbies, and hooks
  • Disinfect frequently touched areas
  • Dust trim, molding, and any furniture (benches, tables, etc.)
  • Clean and polish mirrors (if present)
  • SHOE & GEAR CLEANING
  • Sort and clean shoes before replacing
  • Wipe down boots and let air dry
  • Sanitize soles if heavily soiled (especially for kids’ shoes)
  • Launder or spot clean cloth bags or backpacks
  • WALLS & ENTRY DOORS
  • Spot clean scuffs, shoe marks, or fingerprints
  • Clean door glass and wipe down handles/locks
  • Wipe or vacuum door frame and threshold
  • Dust overhead door trim and corners
  • FLOORS
  • Sweep thoroughly, especially along baseboards
  • Mop with appropriate floor cleaner (consider a degreaser for muddy areas)
  • Spot scrub grout or rubber baseboards if needed
  • Let floors dry completely before replacing rugs or items
  • SMART DOORBELLS, INTERCOMS, AND SECURITY PANELS
  • Use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe surfaces
  • Avoid direct sprays—use slightly damp cloth for smudges
  • Disinfect buttons and touchscreens with electronics-safe wipes
  • Check connectivity or battery status if applicable
  • LIGHT FIXTURES & MOTION SENSORS
  • Dust covers and bulbs (make sure lights are off and cool)
  • Check for cobwebs or dirt buildup in corners
  • Wipe motion sensors gently with dry cloth
  • CHARGING STATIONS OR OUTLETS
  • Unplug devices before cleaning
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces around outlets
  • Organize charging cords or remove unused ones
