A handy checklist for cleaning the bedroom

Bedroom Deep Cleaning Checklist

  • GENERAL PREP
  • Remove clutter from floors, nightstands, and dressers
  • Take out trash or recycling
  • Open windows for ventilation
  • Strip the bed and remove curtains (if washing)
  • BEDDING
  • Wash all bedding (sheets, pillowcases, duvet cover)
  • Wash or air out pillows and comforter (check care labels)
  • Rotate or flip the mattress
  • Vacuum mattress and sprinkle baking soda (let sit, then vacuum again)
  • Replace clean bedding and fluff pillows
  • FURNITURE & SURFACES
  • Dust and polish all furniture: dresser, nightstands, headboard
  • Wipe down drawer fronts and handles
  • Disinfect high-touch areas (knobs, handles, drawer pulls)
  • Organize drawer interiors and remove clutter
  • CLOSET & CLOTHING
  • Remove and sort clothing (donate, discard, keep)
  • Wipe closet shelves and vacuum floor
  • Organize shoes and accessories
  • Dust closet doors (inside and out)
  • WINDOWS & WINDOW TREATMENTS
  • Clean window glass (inside and outside if accessible)
  • Wipe sills, tracks, and frames
  • Dust blinds or vacuum curtains
  • Wash or dry-clean curtains if needed
  • WALLS, TRIM, AND BASEBOARDS
  • Spot clean walls (scuffs, smudges, fingerprints)
  • Dust and wipe down baseboards and crown molding
  • Clean around door frames and light switches
  • FLOORS
  • Vacuum carpets thoroughly, including under furniture
  • Shake out or wash rugs
  • Mop hard floors if applicable
  • Clean along edges and corners manually
  • Let floors dry completely before putting rugs or furniture back
  • LAMPS, ALARM CLOCKS, AND SMALL DEVICES
  • Unplug before cleaning
  • Dust lampshades, bases, and cords
  • Wipe down alarm clocks, fans, and other gadgets
  • Clean light bulbs if needed (when cool)
  • CHARGERS, CABLES, AND POWER STRIPS
  • Untangle and organize cords
  • Wipe down power strips and plugs
  • Check for frayed wires or unused devices to remove
  • PHONES, TABLETS, SMART DEVICES
  • Use screen-safe wipes or microfiber cloth
  • Clean docking stations or wireless chargers
  • Sanitize phone case if applicable
