Simple Breakfast Ideas for Smoother School Mornings

This article was brought to you by Pillsbury® Toaster Strudel®

The school morning routine can be rushed and exhausting, especially when the kids resist doing the little things like brushing teeth and getting their backpack together.

Try adding a special breakfast to the routine to put everyone in a better mood and more likely to get through the morning to do list with smiles on. Of course we wouldn't suggest preparing Eggs Benedict on a busy morning, so we chose a few breakfast ideas that are super quick and easy to clean up. Plus we've added a complete grocery list for all the supplies.

Pancakes. It's really really easy to whip up homemade pancakes, and they are sure to please all the carb-loving kids out there. This takes 10 minutes: Heat an oiled griddle or large pan to 375 degrees. Whisk 1 egg until fluffy in a medium bowl. Add 1 cup flour (any combination of white and/or whole wheat), 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 3/4-1 cup milk (depending on how flat or thick you like them!) and stir to combine. Pour batter onto griddle, brown on both sides and serve.

Breakfast sandwich. Put an English muffin in the toaster, fry an egg until firm, add a couple slices of bacon or spinach, and put together a sandwich that the kids can even take on the go.

Breakfast burrito. Here's another quick breakfast that can be grab and go. Scramble one egg per person, set aside. For each burrito, place a tortilla in the pan, top with a handful of shredded cheese and when cheese begins to melt, top with one serving of eggs. Add salsa if they like it, wrap up into a burrito and serve.

Smoothie. Yogurt and fruit make for a healthy treat in the morning. For two servings: in a blender, combine 1/2 cup milk, 1 tablespoon sugar or honey, and 1 frozen banana broken into pieces. Blend until just smooth, add 1 cup yogurt , pulse to combine and serve. (Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.)

Ready made breakfast. For the busiest of mornings, pop in a Pillsbury® Toaster Strudel® and serve with fresh fruit.
