Cozi PC Version Release Notes

Cozi Web Access Release Notes

Cozi Outlook Toolbar (beta) Release Notes

Introduction

We work constantly to improve Cozi and make it easier to use, whether by adding features that families request, or by fixing problems that families report. For these reasons, it’s always best to run the latest version of Cozi.

Cozi automatically updates your installation, but there are a few instances where this might not happen. This page will explain how to check which version you’re running, automatically receive the latest version, and learn what improvements have been made.

Check your current version

If you’re using the PC version and you want to check which version you have:

  1. Run Cozi from the Windows Start menu.
  2. On your Cozi Home page, find the More area, and then click Settings.
  3. On the left-hand side of the settings page, you will see a version number. This number should be the same number as the latest version mentioned below.

Get the latest version

Cozi checks for updates once per day, and automatically updates itself if a new version is available. If you don’t have the latest version, you can easily obtain it by closing Cozi, then restarting it.

If your firewall program asks whether or not to grant permission to Cozi, you should always say yes; otherwise, you may not be able to receive updates and Cozi may not function properly.

If Cozi does not upgrade automatically for any reason, you can always install the latest version here.

About the latest version of Cozi PC

The following sections describe the latest releases of Cozi and the improvements they include.

February 12, 2008 — Version 1.0.2612.0

This release contains the following bug fix:

  • Cozi will no longer close if you double-click any Calendar tab other than the "All" tab.

September 28, 2007 — Version 1.0.2128.0

This release contains two bug fixes to Cozi.

  • Logos are now displayed correctly on the Send a Collage page when you choose to send a collage after the Cozi Collage screen saver has started automatically. Parts of the logos were previously displayed in the wrong positions.
  • Specifying invalid dates during free-form appointment creation no longer creates recurring appointments. It was previously possible to create recurring appointments with invalid dates, such as “New Year’s Eve every Dec 32nd.” Now, when an invalid recurring appointment is entered, only one appointment is created on the current day so that it will be easy to correct.

September 18, 2007 — Version 1.0.2118.0

This release contains two bug fixes to Cozi.

  • Cozi automatically updates itself when you run it. This release fixes an incompatibility between Cozi’s auto-upgrade capability and Windows Vista’s “User Access Control” security system. In previous releases of Cozi, this bug manifested itself as follows:
    • When a new version of Cozi was available, the first time the screen saver ran each day, you would see a Vista User Access Control message asking you if you wanted to run “Installing the latest version of Cozi Central.” However, accepting this notice would not upgrade Cozi, and you would continue to see this message once per day if the Cozi screen saver was being used.
    • Alternately, some families had reported seeing their Vista computer lock up during the screen saver. It is possible to break out of this by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del. The same thing was happening as above, but the security message was not visible.
Today’s release removes the auto-update capability from the screen saver. Now, the screen saver will show a message at the bottom of the screen when a new version is available. You can obtain the new version by running the Cozi program on your computer.
  • The reflection of the clock in the screen saver has been fixed to align properly on computers in high DPI mode, and computers with tall monitors.

August 31, 2007 — Version 1.0.2030.0

SHOPPING LISTS

  • The shopping list feature is more reliable; we fixed bugs that may have been causing some users to lose shopping list data.
  • Shopping lists have highlighting and other new design touches to help you interact with them.
  • Shopping lists now have additional keyboard and mouse support, including the ability to:
    • Re-order items by dragging and dropping them.
    • Use the mouse wheel to navigate the shopping list Recent list.
  • In the shopping list, the selection caret appears correctly even if you do not have the WingDings3 font installed on your computer.

SCREEN SAVER

  • In previous releases, if you pressed the space bar when running the screen saver, it would open another copy of Cozi. Now pressing the space bar opens the currently running instance of Cozi.
  • Photo quality has been improved in the Cozi Collage screen saver, and the Collage also handles large images better.
  • Previous releases of Cozi allowed you to access the File - Open dialog box by pressing the space bar from the screen saver and clicking on the Home page photo. This is no longer allowed when your PC is locked.

BUG FIXES and OTHER IMPROVEMENTS

  • The toolbar at the bottom of the screen now includes direct links to the main features so you don’t need to return to the Home page to reach them.
  • Cozi now remembers its position correctly when it is closed and then re-opened on computers with multiple monitors.
  • Cozi will no longer crash if you compose a Cozi Message to all members of the household, delete those household members from Settings (before sending the message), and then go back to the in-progress message and remove those members from the message.
  • If you remove a child from your household information, there is no longer a chance that the information will reappear.

May 22, 2007 — Version 1.0.1717.0

  • Cozi now works well with Windows Vista (32-bit editions). If you have an older version of Cozi and you are running Vista, you will want to manually update your copy by following the instructions above. 64-bit editions of Vista are not yet supported.
  • Cozi now works properly behind all common proxy servers.
  • Cozi setup now gives you the choice of whether or not to use the Cozi Collage as your screen saver. (This functionality has been available to new users for more than one month.)
  • We fixed a problem where if Cozi was running and you started a second copy of Cozi, you would see a Cozi splash screen linger for 60 seconds.
  • We corrected the highlighting in the mini-calendar when the first-day-of-the-week setting in Windows was not set to Sunday.
  • Cozi auto-update now checks for new versions only once per day, rather than each time you start Cozi.

March 15, 2007 — Version 1.0.1513.0

  • Share your photos with your friends and family! You can now email the photo collages you see in the Cozi Collage screen saver to other people.
  • Share your photos with the world! You can optionally send photo collages to collage@cozi.com, and they will appear on the Cozi blog and on the Flickr Web site. (Learn more).
  • Appointment start and end times now appear on the family calendar in the Home page, and in Agenda view of the calendar page. (Agenda view is the default.) Previously these views showed the start time but not the end time.
  • The sticky note on the Home page shows a dynamic message from Cozi rather than tip text about setting up your household.
  • The screen saver no longer runs when the monitor is off. This fixes an issue where some computers running Cozi would not go into standby mode.
  • A screen saver crash that resulted in an error message about "ImageFolderRoots" has been fixed. This issue occurred on Windows Vista and in &ldqu;limited user” accounts on Windows XP.
  • If there is only one adult in the household, the handoff menu is no longer available.
  • In previous versions of Cozi, you could launch an Internet browser to reach Web pages (e.g., the Cozi Help Web page) even if the PC was locked. This was possible if you launched Cozi from the screen saver by pressing the spacebar. This issue has been corrected, and it is no longer possible to use Cozi to launch Web pages when the PC is locked.
  • We made clarifications to the error messages and example text in the sign-up area of Cozi. This page is used mainly by families downloading Cozi from third-party websites or installing Cozi from a CD-ROM.
  • There are several improvements to recurring appointments:
    • The list of examples in the Occurs field (which you see if you click on an appointment in the calendar) has been expanded and reorganized to make it easier to select the right recurrence pattern.
    • You can now type additional kinds of appointments in the family calendar, like "each weekday" and "each weekend day."
    • We fixed a bug where certain unusual recurrence patterns caused Cozi to crash.
    • Appointments which are set to occur "every nth" weekday or "every other" weekday now start on the first weekday that applies.

January 23, 2007 — Version 1.0.1316.0

  • For added security, all users can now protect their family information with a real password instead of a 4-digit numeric PIN
  • If you use Windows "fast user switching," which lets more than one person log into Windows at the same time, your computer should now be more responsive. We fixed a issue which caused the screen saver to run in an account which wasn’t being actively used.
  • You can now sign up for an account directly in Cozi without having to visit www.cozi.com.
  • We fixed issue where upgrading to a new version of Cozi overwrote the copy of the data stored on the computer.

About the latest version of Cozi Web Access

April 2, 2008

  • We improved the Home page so that it loads much faster on most browsers.
  • We added advertising to the left pane of the Calendar, Settings, and Family Journal pages to keep the Cozi product free. We've been careful to keep advertising separate from family content in the main part of these pages.
  • We made major improvements to the usability and performance of the Cozi Calendar, as detailed below. However, these improvements are difficult to implement in older browser technology, so they currently do not apply to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox versions earlier than version 2. If you use Internet Explorer 6, you will not notice a change in the appearance of the calendar. If you use an older version of Firefox, please upgrade to Firefox 2.
  • The calendar now includes days of the week.
  • Appointment data now loads asynchronously. When you change an appointment, only the affected dates are reloaded, instead of the entire Calendar page.
  • The Calendar page now allows infinite scrolling. Instead of clicking a link to view one week at a time, you can use the scroll bar to scroll as far into the future (or past) as you like.
  • We made the mini calendar (on the left side of the Calendar page) more functional and interactive. Now when you move your mouse pointer over the mini calendar, navigation controls appear that allow you to quickly access the previous month, the next month, and today; the dates at the end of the previous month and at the beginning of the next month also appear, allowing you to quickly navigate to dates just outside of the current month.
  • We improved the controls for selecting the family member whose appointments you want to view. Instead of large tabs, the color-coded dots associated with each family member name (as well as the dot for “All” family members) appear at the top of the calendar. Clicking these dots displays the appointments specific to each family member.
  • We replaced the "What can I type?" link with a smaller question mark icon and improved the hint text window design.
  • We made many visual and usability improvements to the calendar, including typography, visual alignment, spacing, and color.

February 12, 2008

  • We made improvements to the functionality and performance of the Web access edition on Internet Explorer (for both versions 6.0 and 7.0).

December 20, 2007

  • We added the Cozi Family Journal, a new feature currently in beta testing, that allows you to jot down family moments and upload photos (currently available only in the Web version). You can find more information here.
  • The Home page now includes access to the new Cozi Family Journal (beta), as well as some visual improvements.
  • The footer on each page now includes links that allow you to navigate directly to the Calendar, Shopping List, Family Journal, and Settings pages, without having to return to the Home page. A More link appears when monitor width prevents any of the links from displaying. Click the More link to see a menu of the rest of the links.
  • The Calendar page now includes a mini-calendar that allows you to quickly navigate from month to month.
  • If you click “What can I type?” next to the text box at the bottom of the Calendar page, you will now see examples for using “everyday language” to schedule appointments.
  • The Calendar page now includes a button that links to the instructions for installing and setting up the Cozi Outlook Toolbar.
  • Printing of the calendar has been improved in response to requests from many families. Now you can print a weekly calendar as a custom PDF file that includes days of the week, color coding for each family member, and a list of attendees for each appointment. The page is nicely formatted, and your family name appears at the top. You can see an example here.
  • The Shopping List page now includes a new recipe feature. Just type ingredients into the box below your shopping list to get meal ideas.
  • You can now access a “recipe of the day” from the Shopping List page. Just click the food image or the recipe title to get the recipe.
  • It is now easier to add, edit, and cross off items on shopping lists.
  • We improved the design and behavior of the buttons on many pages so that they change visually when you click them or point to them with your mouse.
  • On the calendar color Settings page, the colored dots now change visually when you click them or point to them with your mouse.
  • You can now include up to ten family members in your account.

March 5, 2007

  • You can now send shopping lists and calendars to family members’ mobile phones. Prior to this release, this feature was available only in the Cozi PC edition.
  • We have replaced the "post-it note" on the Home page with a message from Cozi. (The first such message is about our new blog).
  • We made improvements to the Home page and the shopping list page to make them more responsive.
  • If you are using a very tall monitor, the yellow background gradient on the shopping list page now extends all the way down.

January 24, 2007

  • Web access users can now manage household members and their settings, and change their calendar colors. Prior to this release, settings could only be changed using the PC edition.
  • Web access users can now change their household photo. This also used to require the PC edition.
  • We made visual improvements to make the Web access edition more closely match the design of the PC edition. These include the inclusion of more attractive fonts, more use of rounded corners, reflections for the clock, and other enhancements.
  • Improvements to the family calendar, including the edit appointment details page.
  • Improved support for Internet Explorer 7.0.
