About the latest version of Cozi Outlook Toolbar
We work to improve the Cozi Outlook Toolbar and make it easier to use, whether
by adding features that families request, or by fixing problems that families report. For
these reasons, it’s always best to run the latest version of the toolbar.
Cozi automatically updates your copy of toolbar, but there are a few
instances where this might not happen. This page will explain how to check which version you’re running,
automatically receive the latest version, and learn what improvements have been made.
- Open Microsoft Outlook.
- Click the Beta menu in the Cozi Outlook Toolbar, and then
click Show Sync Log Window.
- In the upper-right corner, you will see a version number. This
number should be the same number as the latest version mentioned
below.
If you don’t have the latest version, you can easily obtain it:
- Close Microsoft Outlook and open it again.
If the toolbar does not upgrade automatically for any reason, you can always install
the latest version here.
The following sections describe the beta latest releases of the Cozi Outlook Toolbar and the improvements they include.
- Exiting the Settings wizard by closing the wizard window now cancels any changes in progress. In previous releases, closing the wizard had the same effect as completing the wizard, including making settings changes and running a sync.
- Settings changes are now applied to appointments that have already been synchronized. If you change any of your synchronization options, the new setting will apply not only to the appointments you create after that, but also to previously synchronized appointments.
- If synchronization fails to complete because of an error, the “Sync with Cozi Central” toolbar button animation now ends. Previously, it continued indefinitely until Outlook was restarted.
- Cozi now handles exceptions to certain Outlook appointments correctly. Previously, if you were an attendee of a recurring appointment created in Outlook (which you then synchronized with Cozi), and the meeting organizer changed an occurrence of that appointment, that exception to the appointment did not synchronize correctly with Cozi. This problem has been corrected.
- Synchronization is now faster.
- Synchronization of problematic appointments is now skipped so that synchronization of other appointments can continue. It was previously possible for synchronization to stop for all appointments because of a problem with a single appointment. Now, most appointments that are skipped will be handled correctly during the next synchronization or after Outlook is restarted. There is a slight chance that recovery may not work for some appointments, but these appointments will no longer interfere with synchronization in general. Details of such appointments will appear in the sync log.
- Appointments that are copied and pasted in Outlook now synchronize correctly with Cozi. Previously, Cozi synchronized only the most recently modified appointment and deleted the other, “older” ones.
- If your toolbar is set to synchronize only appointments that are outside of work hours, you can now move appointments in and out of work hours and the changes will be correctly reflected in Cozi.
- If you change the household member whose appointments should be synchronized in the Settings wizard, the Cozi toolbar will now make the changes to both your Outlook and Cozi calendars correctly.
- The Family category is now automatically applied to Outlook appointments when a synchronization occurs. Previously, appointments created in Outlook that met the criteria defined in Settings had the Family category applied to them immediately upon creation. However, this would sometimes
fail, causing some appointments to not synchronize with Cozi. Adding the Family category to the appointments during synchronization prevents this possibility. This should be noticeable only to users who have a color assigned to the Family category in Outlook.
- If you are using Windows Vista and you have a JIT (Just In Time) debugger installed, Outlook will continue working during the debugging process. Previously, it was necessary to click Continue during debugging for Outlook to continue working.
- Synchronization now happens automatically between Cozi and Outlook.
- Duplicate appointments issues have been resolved, with one exception,
as listed in the known issues.
- We minimized the already minimal possibility of losing your Outlook
appointments.
- You can move the Cozi Outlook Toolbar to any position in Outlook, and it will stay
in that position, even after you restart Outlook.
- The Cozi Outlook Toolbar now works properly behind all common proxy servers.
- The toolbar now appears in all open Outlook windows. This also fixes a problem where the
toolbar would not display in Outlook when other applications open Outlook in non-UI mode
(e.g., certain virus checkers).
- The "Sync with Cozi Central" button in the toolbar is now animated during the entire
sync process. In addition, the tooltips for the "Sync" button provide real-time status
on the sync process.
- We’ve fixed “Version mismatch” errors. When these occurred in previous versions,
they prevented syncing; they could be seen in the “Sync Log” window available from the
Beta menu.
- You will no longer get duplicate meetings in Outlook after sync. (Meetings in
Outlook are appointments which have more than one attendee).
- Meeting requests in Outlook that are synced with Cozi are now assigned
to the family member using Outlook, not to all family members.
- The Notes field for Outlook appointments synced to Cozi is now limited
to 2000 characters per appointment to improve sync performance. You will see a message at the
bottom of the Notes field if the text has been truncated. The text in the corresponding
appointment in Outlook is not affected.
- We improved syncing while Microsoft ActiveSync is running.
- Setup now upgrades a necessary component for the Cozi Outlook Toolbar to the latest
version if an older version was already installed on the computer. Specifically, we install Visual Studio Tools for
Office Second Edition Runtime when Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime is
present. This change was necessary because the Cozi Outlook Toolbar requires the
newer version of this component.
- Outlook no longer becomes unresponsive at the start of your first sync.
- After syncing, you will now see fewer outdated Outlook reminders for old appointments.
- We now suppress Outlook reminders for appointments synced from Cozi that
occur in the next 15 minutes.
