Known issues: Cozi Outlook Toolbar

This software is still in "beta" testing, meaning it is in the final stages of development and testing. The product is in stable condition, but we are seeking real-world feedback—from you!—that will help us improve its overall performance and usability.

We are aware of the following issues:

APPOINTMENTS

Automatic synchronization may be turned on when you upgrade your Cozi Outlook Toolbar. If you upgrade from an old version of the Outlook Toolbar that does not have the option to enable automatic synchronization on the Beta menu, automatic synchronization will be turned on in the upgraded toolbar. If you do not want your calendar to synchronize automatically, click the Beta menu, and then clear the Sync Automatically check box.

The Settings wizard may display a blank list of family members. The first time you use the Settings wizard, Cozi may fail to get the names of the family members for your account. If this happens, the Which family member are you? page will display an empty list. You can complete or cancel the wizard at this point, but synchronization will not be possible until the household member information can be obtained. Restarting the Settings wizard should solve the problem.

Copied appointments sometimes turn into weekly recurrences after synchronization. If you copy an appointment to a different day in Outlook and then edit it, it may (very rarely) become a recurring appointment in both Cozi and Outlook after synchronization.

It is possible to lose Outlook appointments (but very unlikely). Although we have worked hard to minimize any possibility of data loss when synchronizing with Cozi, it is always a good idea to back up your data before initiating any changes to Outlook. We strongly recommend that you back up your Outlook appointments before syncing.

Duplicate appointments may appear briefly in Outlook or Cozi. If you are in Cozi and modify one appointment in a recurring series and choose Change going forward, you might see two appointments (the original one and the edited one) in Outlook and in Cozi. The duplicates should be automatically removed if you click Sync with Cozi again.

Exceptions to recurring appointments may not behave as you want them to. There are three scenarios that we know about. These problems can be resolved by syncing again or by closing and restarting Outlook; several synchronizations may be required before the problems are completely resolved. 1) If you create a recurring appointment with an exception in Outlook and then delete the series from Cozi, the series and the exception will be removed from Outlook. However, the exception will stay in Cozi until a subsequent synchronization. 2) If you create a recurring appointment in Outlook or Cozi and create and then delete an exception in Outlook, the exception will not be deleted from Cozi. 3) If you create a recurring appointment in Cozi and then modify one appointment in the series, the changes that you make to the series may not be applied to the exception in Outlook.

Appointments that recur on non-consecutive weekends are incorrectly displayed in Outlook after synchronization. For example, an appointment that occurs every two weekends will appear correctly in Cozi but be split across two different weekends in Outlook, falling on Sunday in the first weekend, and Saturday in the second.

Appointments that aren't yours might show up in Outlook. Under very rare circumstances, all appointments from Cozi (not just your own) will be synchronized with Outlook. There is no need to manually delete these extraneous appointments; you can remove them by syncing again.

COMPATIBILITY

If you use Microsoft Active Sync with Outlook 2003, the Cozi Outlook Toolbar may not appear. Upgrading to Outlook 2007 will solve this problem.

If you have installed the Microsoft Business Contact Manager, you must have the latest version before using the Cozi Outlook Toolbar. This program is a separate add-on to Microsoft Outlook that is not normally installed with Microsoft Office. The latest version is called "Microsoft Business Contact Manager Update for Outlook." You are running the latest version if you see the word "update" in its title under Add or Remove Programs. If the word "update" is not there, you can obtain the latest version here. If you install the Cozi Outlook Toolbar on a computer where the older version of Business Contact Manager software is installed, Microsoft Outlook may stop working.

INSTALLATION and UNINSTALLATION

Sometimes the Cozi Outlook Toolbar doesn't appear. If you encounter this issue, please follow these steps, which will usually correct the issue.

If you upgrade from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007, you will need to reinstall the toolbar.

Uninstalling Cozi will remove the Cozi Outlook Toolbar. However, you can get the toolbar back without reinstalling it. In Windows, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs. Select Cozi Outlook Toolbar, and then click the Repair button.

PERFORMANCE

Your Cozi Calendar may get slower if you have many appointments. This situation is made more likely by synchronizing using the Cozi Outlook Toolbar, since you will probably have more Cozi appointments than you used to. We are working to address these performance issues.

MISCELLANEOUS

Outlook print-outs include Cozi codes after synchronization. For example, if you print the details of an appointment you have synchronized, you will see some extra fields such as CoziVaultIDProperty on the print-out.

There is a [Beta] menu. This menu will not be available in the final version of the Cozi Outlook Toolbar.
