Backing up your Outlook appointments

The Cozi Outlook Toolbar (Beta) is in beta testing. If you haven't already, we recommend that you back up your Outlook appointments before syncing.

1. Open your calendar in Microsoft Office Outlook.

2a. If you're using Outlook 2010, from Outlook's File menu, select Options, then click Advanced.

2b. If you're using Outlook 2007 or 2003, from Outlook's File menu, click Import and Export.

3. Select Export to a file, and then click Next.

4. Select Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.

5. On the screen that asks you to Select the folder to export from, make sure your main calendar is selected, and then click Next.

6. Choose a folder location to which Outlook will export your calendar. We recommend that you DO NOT choose the default location but instead find a folder that will be easy for you to remember. You can even write this location down. Give the export file a name, and then click Next.

7. The Create Microsoft Personal Folders dialog box appears. Click OK. We do not recommend that you create a password for the backup, as this may be just one more thing you need to keep track of.

8. Wait for a bit as Outlook backs up your appointments.

We recommend only that you back up your appointments, but if you'd like, you can also back up other Outlook information, such as tasks or email. To do so, repeat the procedure above, but in Step 5, select the item you want to back up.

Finding your backup file

You can verify that the backup worked by finding the backup file on your computer. Use Microsoft Windows to open the folder location or search your computer for the file name.

If you don't remember where you saved your backup or what you named it, the wizard displays the most recent backup.

1. Open your calendar in Outlook.

6. Look under Save exported file as. If you recognize the location and file name as the backup of your calendar, write it down, and then click Cancel.

7. In Microsoft Windows, open the folder location or search for the file name.

Reinstalling your backup

In the event that you want to go back to the way things were before, you can reinstall your calendar backup.

1. Open your calendar in Outlook.

2a. If you're using Outlook 2010, from Outlook's File menu, select Options, then click Advanced.

2b. If you're using Outlook 2007 or 2003, from Outlook's File menu, click Import and Export.

3. Select Import from another program or file, and then click Next.

4. Select Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.

5. On the screen that asks you which File to import, check the file name to see if it is your calendar backup, and then click Next. If your calendar backup is not there, click Browse to search your computer for it.

6. Under Select the folder to import from, click Calendar.

7. Make sure that Import items into the same folder in is selected, make sure that the drop-down menu contains your mailbox name, and then click Finish.

8. Wait for a bit as Outlook reinstalls your calendar appointments. You might see reminders for old appointments. It is safe to dismiss them with the Dismiss All button.

9. Go to the Outlook calendar to view the reinstated appointments.
